Illinois’s Assistance Animal Integrity Act addresses assistance-animal documentation and the therapeutic relationship supporting it. Its definition distinguishes meaningful professional knowledge from a business that supplies documents without an appropriate assessment. The issue is more substantial than whether a letter was emailed or printed.
Ask an online service how the professional becomes familiar with your situation. A commercial registry number does not explain that relationship.
Bring the housing question to your clinician
Describe the residence and the policy you need adjusted, then explain the animal’s actual role in your life. If you already see a treating professional, ask whether this assessment falls within their practice. Do not assume either that every therapist writes such letters or that a new website is required.
When comparing services, request a clear explanation of appointment time, documentation if appropriate, and later verification. Confirm that the professional can practice where you will be located.
Keep evidence proportionate to the request
Send a clear accommodation request and appropriate supporting information through the property’s stated channel. If the landlord questions the document, ask what specific point needs clarification. A second purchased certificate may add nothing if the unresolved issue is the professional basis for the first letter.
Keep the submitted version, the response, and any written permission for clinician contact. Do not authorize unlimited access to records without understanding why it is requested.
