A university request has its own administrative steps
If you are moving into a residence hall, ask the institution’s accessibility office how an animal accommodation is reviewed and communicated to housing. A general ESA letter does not automatically complete a university’s application or animal-care agreement.
Give the clinician the actual form and deadline. Explain your own circumstances and the animal’s role. Confirm the professional’s authorization for where you will physically attend the appointment, including a visit during a school break in another state.
Keep the outcome and next questions in writing
For private housing, identify the accommodation contact and submit a clear request with appropriate supporting information. For campus housing, retain both the accessibility correspondence and any separate housing decision. Ask which step remains incomplete if the status is unclear.
If a refusal may involve discrimination, preserve the reason, dates, and property information before seeking advice. If the remaining issue concerns supervision, a roommate conflict, or animal behavior, develop a practical care response too. Documentation alone does not settle each of those questions.
