A legislative brief is background, with a date
Wisconsin’s Legislative Council published a support-animal issue brief in June 2024. It helps identify the legal categories and settings involved, but its publication date predates the 2026 federal enforcement change. Use it with the current housing update rather than treating every older federal summary as unchanged.
Check whether a particular rule addresses housing, public access, or professional documentation. A similar animal label does not make those contexts identical.
Prepare the clinician’s assessment
Explain why documentation is being sought and what support the animal provides in your life. Bring the property’s request or campus form. Ask the professional whether this assessment is within their practice and confirm authorization for your physical appointment location.
Clarify the appointment process, price, and follow-up arrangements. If you already have documentation, ask whether clarification is needed before assuming an entirely new evaluation package is the right purchase.
Make the housing file specific
Identify the requested rule adjustment and the residence involved. Keep the policy, submitted support, acknowledgment, and response together. A campus accessibility decision and a private landlord’s decision should be retained separately if both are relevant to your move.
For a disputed charge or refusal, ask for the reason and seek advice about the facts and applicable framework. Keep ordinary animal-care responsibilities on your planning list. An assessment can support documentation when appropriate; it cannot guarantee that every housing or behavior question will be resolved by a letter.
